Deism - My Religious Belief
Deism is a belief in God or supreme being based on reason and
nature. More specifically, it is a belief in God that created the universe
and set it in motion to run by natural processes. Deist typically reject
supernatural events (prophecy, miracles) and divine revelation prominent in
organized religion, rejection of holy books that claim to contain the
revealed word of God. Elements of deist thought include God exists and
created the universe, humans to behave morally, humans have souls that
survive death into an afterlife, and in the afterlife God will reward moral
behavior and punish immoral behavior. A number of prominent early Americans
such as Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, and Thomas Paine
were Deists, along with French Enlightenment figures
Voltaire and Rousseau.
